Attendance Requirements
Regular attendance is essential to your success in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at BY ZIP School of Nursing. Our program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in your future career. Consistent participation is crucial for mastering both the theoretical and practical components of your training.
Attendance Expectations
1. Classroom Instruction
Attendance is required for all scheduled classroom sessions. The material covered is foundational to your understanding of patient care and critical for success in both the program and the state CNA certification exam.
2. Lab Practice (8 Hours – Not Included in 160 CDPH Hours)
Participation in hands-on lab sessions is mandatory. These sessions allow you to practice and refine essential nursing skills before applying them in real clinical settings.
3. Clinical Rotations
Attendance during clinical rotations is compulsory. Clinicals provide invaluable real-world experience, and missing clinical time may prevent you from meeting program objectives and state requirements.
Excused Absences
- Only one day absence for theory or clinical is allowed.
- Excused absences include:
- Sickness (with or without a doctor’s note)
- Car accident
- Death in the family
- Unexcused absences: No call/text and no show.
- Documentation must be provided to validate excused absences.
- Students must make up missed work as arranged with the instructor.
- Absence limits:
- 8 hours maximum for theory
- 8 hours maximum for clinical
- Exceeding these limits results in termination from the school with no refund. Students may repeat the class by re-enrolling and paying full program fees.
Grading System & Completion Requirements
Module Tests (1–17)
Students must maintain an average score of 75% across all module and final exams.
Clinical Evaluation
Students must pass their clinical evaluation conducted by the instructor to successfully complete the program.
Failure to meet minimum requirements may result in course failure or ineligibility for certification of completion.
Payment Requirements
Total cost for the Online CNA Program: $1,795
Payment Schedule
- $110 – Required to secure your seat (non-refundable)
- 50% of total cost – Due before clinicals begin
- Remaining balance – Due one week before end of clinicals
Failure to meet payment deadlines may result in termination from the program.
Professional Conduct
Boundaries
Maintain professional boundaries at all times. Avoid personal relationships or behavior that could be interpreted as unprofessional.
Respect for Dignity
Treat all patients with respect, compassion, and empathy. Protect their privacy and comfort.
Communication & Reporting
Report abnormal changes or concerns to your instructor. Communicate respectfully and clearly with patients and staff.
Confidentiality
Never disclose patient information. Respect patient privacy at all times.
Non-Discrimination
Provide equal, unbiased care to all patients.
Informed Consent
Explain procedures to patients and obtain consent when applicable.
Empathy & Compassion
Demonstrate caring, patience, and emotional support.
Academic Honesty
Cheating or dishonesty results in disciplinary action, including dismissal.
Substance Abuse
Use of alcohol or illegal substances during school or clinical hours is prohibited and grounds for immediate dismissal.
Clinical Training Overview
Clinical Requirements
- Attendance: Full participation required.
- Uniform: Navy blue nursing scrubs with professional appearance.
- Conduct: Must reflect ethical nursing standards.
- Documentation: Students must accurately document patient care activities.
Completion of Clinicals
Students must:
- Demonstrate competence in all required skills
- Exhibit professional behavior
- Complete all mandated clinical hours per California state requirements
Disclaimer
Class schedules may change based on program needs, clinical site availability, or instructor schedules. Students will be notified of any changes as early as possible.
Remediation & Re-Examination
- Remediation: Students who do not meet passing grades must pay appropriate fees & complete additional instruction, practice, or retesting.
- Re-Examination: One retake per quiz, test, or skills assessment is allowed.

1. Patient Care & Safety
Patient-Centered Care
- Prioritize patient comfort and dignity.
- Knock before entering, explain procedures, and obtain consent.
Adherence to Protocols
- Follow all facility policies, protocols, and infection control procedures.
- Report safety concerns immediately.
Confidentiality
- Follow HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Do not discuss patient information outside the clinical setting or on social media.
Confidentiality & HIPAA Compliance
1. Understanding Confidentiality
Confidentiality is the ethical obligation to protect sensitive medical information from unauthorized access.
2. HIPAA Compliance
- Only access information necessary for patient care.
- Avoid discussing patient information with unauthorized individuals.
- Store and transmit patient information securely.
Safety Protocols & Infection Control
Students must follow all safety and infection control guidelines, including:
- Proper hand hygiene
- Appropriate PPE use
- Safe handling and disposal of equipment
- Following facility infection control procedures
- Emergency protocol awareness
- Maintaining integrity and honesty in all tasks
- Professional respect toward staff, patients, and peers
- Meeting attendance and conduct expectations
Emergency Procedures
Students must follow the facility’s emergency protocols, including procedures for:
- Medical emergencies
- Fire drills
- Evacuations
- Hazardous spills
- Incident reporting
Following established emergency guidelines ensures safety for patients, staff, and students.
